Those who own West Hollywood houses are well informed about eco-friendly construction. That’s because the city has one of the nation’s first green building ordinances, 
adopted in 2007. All new construction and remodels must meet certain standards and are graded by a point system. In addition, all new public construction must go a step further and be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified.
LEED certification has four levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Certified. These levels are based on points the building has earned in eight different categories. LEED certification ensures the best methods of sustainable design and construction were used during construction.
While newly constructed West Hollywood homes must meet the city’s standards, LEED certification is voluntary. However, Hollywood real estate trends show it can pay off for those that choose to pursue it.
The US Green Building Council estimates that LEED certified buildings use, on average, 20-30% less energy and water. In California, that can translate into 8-9% higher sales price. In fact, 96% of buyers looking at houses for sale in West Hollywood state they are willing to pay a higher price for eco-friendly features in a home.
Buyers looking at homes for sale in West Hollywood should keep in mind, that new homes with LEED certification will save them money on energy and water costs, be healthier to live in, and will hold their value in the future.
