Los Feliz

Los Feliz in Hollywood California is one of the last of the old world neighborhoods in Los Angeles that has retained its authentic architecture and ambiance. Los Feliz is adjacent to the neighborhoods of Hollywood and Silver Lake. Specifically, it is bordered by Hollywood Boulevard to the south, Hyperion Avenue to the southeast, Griffith Park to the north, the Los Angeles River to the east, Western Avenue to the west and traversed by Los Feliz Boulevard. Most Los Feliz houses were built in the era between the World Wars, and more than half of the housing stock is of Spanish or Mediterranean revival styles. Los Feliz is also rich in virtually all of the other revival styles such as Country English, Norman French, Traditional (especially from the 1930s and 1940s) and Colonial by noted architects such as Paul Williams and Wallace Neff. Signature architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, Lloyd Wright, Raphael Soriano and J.R. Davidson among others did some of their finest work in Los Feliz. Griffith Park, being the main attraction in Los Feliz, is the world’s largest city park comprised of the Los Angeles Zoo, the Greek Theatre, the MuseumAutry National Center of the American West and numerous other recreational opportunities. Atop Griffith Park is its famous Observatory, which has been recently restored and expanded. On Vermont and Hillhurst Avenues is a trendy boutique shopping area called “Los Feliz Village”. Long known for its fiercely independent and creative spirit, Los Feliz Village encompasses a diverse selection of businesses over 250 merchants – from warmly familiar restaurants and services which have been steady L.A. Basin favorites for over 50 years, to cutting edge designers and hip “retro” clothing, vintage and collectibles shops. Freeway access is convenient, as Los Feliz lies between the Hollywood and Golden State Freeways providing an approximate 15-minute drive to Downtown Los Angeles, a 10 minute drive to Hollywood and 30 minute drive to the west side.
